Miami Carol City (Fla.) earlier this week was hit with sanctions from the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) for their involvement in a postgame brawl with Loganville (Ga.) Grayson last week, a 10-9 loss for the Chiefs. The Chiefs overcame it all, down over a dozen players defeated the Bulls, 17-7, on Friday night at Traz Powell Stadium in Miami to pickup their fourth win of the season. The Chiefs (4-3) opened up the scoring against the Bulls when 2029 quarterback Malik Leonard connected with 2027 wide receiver Santana Blount on a scoring pass to give Miami Carol City the 7-0 lead. Leonard had to play without his top receiver in Miami 5-star commit Nick Lennear, who was out for the game and was named homecoming king at halftime. Miami Carol City had been assessed multiple monetary penalties totaling $3,700 and forced to forfeit wins over West Boca Raton (preseason) and Daytona Mainland (regular season) due to playing an ineligible player earlier in the season. It also had been placed on administrative probation for one calendar year, ending on Sept. 1, 2027. A game many will still have their eyes on despite Miami Carol City being barred from the playoffs is on Oct. 30 when the Chiefs face Miami Central, a team that’s still in Open Division contention. Last season the Chiefs finished with a modest 6-6 record and ranked as the No. 148, according to the final Florida 2025 High School Football Massey Rankings. Now, the Chiefs are looking at much higher expectations when it comes to their play on the field, with many having previously expected the talented roster to compete for Florida’s first-ever Open Division state championship in December. Instead, Miami Carol City will be on the outside looking in this fall with the postseason ban.
