Sign in to your Collider account The mutants have technically been part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for several years, but Marvel Studios has remained unusually patient about assembling the X-Men. Recent projects have introduced mutant characters, referenced the genetic mutation behind their powers, and even revisited the universe of Fox's X-Men movies without establishing the MCU's own version of the team. That has changed considerably in recent months. Jake Schreier is attached to direct Marvel's upcoming X-Men reboot, with Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo working on the screenplay following an earlier draft by Michael Lesslie. Marvel has also started assembling its first official X-Men cast, with Sadie Sink playing Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Kit Connor taking on Scott Summers/Cyclops, and Samara Weaving joining the MCU as Emma Frost. Those announcements finally gave audiences an idea of what Marvel's new generation of mutants will look like, but there were still some major pieces missing. The studio had yet to reveal its Professor X, Rogue, primary villain, or even when the movie would arrive in theaters. Marvel Studios answered all of those questions during its D23 presentation, expanding the cast and officially putting a date on the X-Men's MCU debut.
