Most-played games range from Clair Obscur to Civ to Elden Ring to Halo 2 and beyond. Dungeon Crawler Carl is easily one of the most unprecedented success stories in modern pop culture. Matt Dinniman's World Dungeon and beloved, unique characters more or less single-handedly brought the entire LitRPG genre out of obscurity and into the mainstream, with various other authors in the space now gaining popularity in DCC's wake. Fans who are all caught up on Dungeon Crawler Carl are understandably eager for any new information they can get on the future of what is now a multimedia franchise. As readers gear up for the live-action adaptation on Peacock, the new tabletop RPG and Unstoppable board game arriving to retail in November, the possibility of an animated series, the WEBTOON comic, and more, there's a lot to keep track of in the DCC universe now. Seeing as most of the major announcements for Dungeon Crawler Carl actually come via Dinniman's long-running Patreon account, many fans who do not subscribe are left in the dark on some of the newest developments relating to the books. One such announcement may have slipped past readers' radars over the summer, with the official working title for Book 9 officially revealed back in June via Dinniman's Patreon. Over the summer, Dinniman released the very first glimpse at what readers could expect from Book 9 in a Patreon post that included the working title for the next book: The Beautiful Place. While this obviously isn't new information, it's a huge reveal that many longtime readers may have missed, especially if they aren't supporters on his Patreon page. The June 16 post also included the first two pieces of the upcoming novel's prologue, giving Patreon subscribers an early look at how the next book will begin. Dinniman explained that he'd already written a considerable amount of the book, although much of the material still needed to be organized into a coherent narrative. He also confirmed that neither Carl nor Princess Donut would appear in the initial prologue, which isn't unprecedented, and readers would obviously see them again in the next batch of chapters. Of course, The Beautiful Place is shaping up to be a significant release, considering that it will help bring the entire Dungeon Crawler Carl series to a close. In a February 2026 interview with Variety, Dinniman revealed that he was planning to split the final installment into two separate books, effectively expanding the series to ten novels instead of the originally planned nine. Although he stressed that the arrangement wasn't completely set in stone at the time, he explained that the finale was becoming quite lengthy, making the split a practical solution. Fortunately, the prologue wasn't the last preview Dinniman had planned for his supporters. On August 11, he returned to Patreon with Chapters 1 and 2, offering readers another opportunity to see how the story was progressing. More recently, on October 14, he released another substantial update featuring Chapters 3, 4, and 5, along with an additional interlude. In that latest post, Dinniman acknowledged that travel, moving, a car accident, and an unfortunate bout of food poisoning had disrupted his editing schedule. Nevertheless, he reassured subscribers that much of the material had already been written. While there's still no official release date for Dungeon Crawler Carl Book 9, The Beautiful Place, these updates offer some encouraging signs that the long-awaited finale is steadily taking shape.
