This year’s N7 Day was, at one point, supposed to be a time for celebrating Mass Effect and looking toward the future for its grand return. Thanks to EA’s gutting decision to shut down BioWare and cancel what we now know to be Mass Effect: Universe, N7 Day ended up feeling a lot more like a funeral. As depressing as the state of Mass Effect is, though, fans have at least made their love and support for the series incredibly clear through petitions, events, and even hand-made graveyards outside EA’s office. That dedication really came through yesterday, so much so that it made the original trilogy’s director feel hopeful about Mass Effect’s potential return. Casey Hudson Thinks Mass Effect Will Eventually Make A “Triumphant Return” And It’s All Thanks To The Support From Fans Over on Twitter, former BioWare developer Casey Hudson shared a post to celebrate N7 Day, noting that it “doesn’t feel right” to say ‘happy’ this time around. As grim as the vibes are this year, Hudson offered a bit of hope for fans, as he said that he’s “optimistic that Mass Effect will live on”. The director continued, pointing out that when (not if) the series makes its “triumphant return”, it will be because of all the love that players around the world have shared. Hudson seemingly thinks that the support that fans have shown for the series will be enough to push EA into actually doing something with it in the future. Hudson’s message is especially notable considering he’s the director of Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, which is in itself bringing back a franchise that BioWare previously worked on. It just goes to show that, while Universe and the team responsible for the series are sadly gone, there could still be a bright future ahead for Mass Effect.
