Marvel Studios’ announcements have just been banger after banger recently. At San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel announced Ryan Gosling as Ghost Rider and David Jonsson as the new Black Panther. At D23, Kevin Feige brought out the all-star X-Men cast. And now, at New York Comic-Con, we’ve gotten some deep-cut announcements. A spy thriller series called Zodiac is in the works, Marvel Zombies: The Last Guardian will wrap up the post-apocalyptic saga with three two-part specials (it’s complicated), and Charlie Cox has teased that Daredevil could be back after Born Again’s abrupt cancellation. One of Marvel Studios’ featured titles at New York Comic-Con was Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, which will premiere its second season on Disney+ on January 13, 2027. The show debuted a season 2 poster, which shows Spidey’s classic red-and-blue suit getting taken over by the black Venom symbiote. As he desperately reaches out for help, he’s engulfed by a giant Venom symbol. Clearly, they’re doing the Venom storyline. The footage shown at Comic-Con teased a few different storylines, including the debut of Gwen Stacy, the return of Cox’s Daredevil, and a lot of airtime for Doc Ock. The most tantalizing tease in this sizzle reel was the arrival of Eddie Brock, who can be seen interviewing Harry Osborn. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man's Venom Storyline Continues Its Darker Spidey Story Although its title and classic-comic-inspired animation style would suggest a lighthearted show, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man actually turned out to be a surprisingly dark Spidey story. Rather than being mentored by Uncle Ben, or even Tony Stark, this Peter Parker is taking all his wisdom and life lessons and spiritual guidance from Norman Osborn, and it’s leading him down a very sinister path. Norman made an ever-so-slight change to Uncle Ben’s classic mantra — “With great power comes great respect” — and that one word made all the difference. Instead of focusing on doing good for the people in need, Peter is more interested in earning their respect. In season 1, we saw Peter embrace his rage and stop pulling his punches, and it took him to a very dark place. The Venom arc is in keeping with this darker approach to Spider-Man. That’s the point of the symbiote: it brings out a much angrier, uglier, more rageful side of Peter. So, it’ll be interesting to see what Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2 does with it. Will Tom Holland Don The Symbiote Suit In Avengers: Secret Wars? Image via Marvel Comics Marvel’s Spider-Man cartoon has picked an interesting time to debut Spidey’s black symbiote suit. Spider-Man famously wore the symbiote suit in the Secret Wars comic storyline, so there’s naturally been a lot of speculation about whether Tom Holland’s Spidey will don the symbiote suit in Avengers: Secret Wars next year. Sure, it would look cool, but they haven’t left enough time to set it up. A bit of Tom Hardy’s symbiote stuck around when he returned to the Sony-verse in the mid-credits scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home, but nothing became of that tease. With all that’s going on in Secret Wars, following up the cliffhanger ending of Doomsday and setting up a soft reboot for the MCU, it’s highly unlikely that the Russos will find time to speedrun a symbiote arc for Peter Parker — especially after Spider-Man: Brand New Day just told a story where Peter faces his inner darkness and comes out the other side a better person. Holland isn’t even confirmed to appear in these upcoming Avengers movies (although Brand New Day’s cryptic post-credits stinger seemed to suggest he’d be going to space, which sounds more like something from an Avengers movie than a Spider-Man movie). So, it’s unlikely that we’ll see Holland don the symbiote suit any time soon. But that’s okay, because Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is donning it for him.
