Marvel has named the one superhero capable of taking down the near-omnipotent Galactus, marking them as a cosmic powerhouse who is reliably underestimated by fans. Debuting in 1965, Galactus was introduced as a new type of villain. Rather than a dictator or megalomaniac seeking power, Galactus was a true force of the cosmos driven by an eldritch hunger. Unable to be reasoned with, destroyed or satisfied, Galactus remains a Marvel icon to this day. However, it's now been revealed that even Galactus can't stand against a superhuman who few fans would consider to be in the upper echelons of Marvel's power ranking. Doctor Doom Uses Invisible Woman's Powers To Down Galactus In the recent Doomquest #5 - from Ryan North, Francesco Mobili, Frank D'Armata and Travis Lanham - the Invisible Woman defeats Galactus, turning his own all-powerful Power Cosmic back at him. Prior to that, Susan Storm uses her force fields to bowl over Galactus and send the Silver Surfer flying, as well as sabotaging Galactus' godlike Elemental Converter. The battle takes place during the iconic Galactus Trilogy by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee, and Sue isn't exactly herself. Doomquest sees Doctor Doom careening through time, possessing the body of notable people during pivotal moments of history. This issue sees Doom present for Galactus' debut in the body of his old enemy the Invisible Woman. Hailing from the future (aka Marvel's modern day), Doctor Doom has witnessed Invisible Woman's powers evolve over the years. Crucially, Doom knows that Invisible Woman's true ability is to control light itself, allowing her to hijack Galactus' electromagnetic attack and throw it back at him. Having saved the planet, Doom continues his quest through the timestream. Invisible Woman Has Become One of Marvel's Strongest Heroes Invisible Woman has long been depicted as incredibly strong, capable of shattering the cosmic armor of the godlike Celestials since the mid-90s. However, recent comics have emphasized both the versatility and immensity of her powers. In recent comics, Invisible Woman has explored her powers' potential, harnessing unbelievable abilities. Not only has Sue shown the fine control to assemble a working jet out of compressed photons, she has blotted out the Sun itself - a feat which would wipe out all life on Earth if sustained. Sue's force fields have held off the reality-rewriting power of a Cosmic Cube and recently, when the Fantastic Four were driven into a violent rage, she instinctively created force bubbles that sectioned off their brains, saving them from the effect while necessarily blocking off their longterm memories. There are a lot of powerful heroes, but no others that can both cause mass extinction and carry out impromptu brain surgery. The wild thing is, Sue could be even more powerful if she stopped holding back... Invincible Woman Confirmed Susan Storm Could Be Even Stronger In the recent 'The Invincible Woman' arc of Fantastic Four (from Ryan North and Humbero Ramos), Sue met an alternate universe version of herself with zero morality. The Invincible Woman had honed Susan Storm's powers into their ultimate form, taking out Galactus by rapidly compressing the matter inside his body to create a black hole. This version of Sue accidentally killed everyone in her home reality, manipulating microwaves to fry them alive or freezing them solid by negating heat and light. However, this version of Sue didn't have any additional powers. Like the Invisible Woman, she was able to warp the electromagnetic spectrum, she just did so without any regard for the safety of others, showing what Earth-616's Sue would be capable of if she ever stopped holding back. By using the Invisible Woman's powers to defeat Galactus, Doctor Doom just showed how powerful she truly is - but as her recent encounter with the Invincible Woman proved, even taking out the Devourer of Worlds is just the tip of the iceberg of Susan Storm's potential. Doomquest #5 is available now from Marvel Comics.
