Marvel Officially Confirms Epic Doctor Doom vs Doctor Strange Battle

Published Aug 22, 2026, 7:30 PM EDT Shaun Corley has been with ScreenRant for over 5 years, and is currently the Coordinator for PR and Outreach for the Comics Team. Marvel has just teased an epic showdown between Doctor Doom and Doctor Strange. The two doctors have been at odds with each other for a long time: Doom is a perpetual runner-up for Doctor Strange’s title of Sorcerer Supreme, and it has become a point of contention for the Latverian monarch. Doctor Strange, one of the most powerful magic users in the Marvel Universe, is also Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme. In this capacity, he defends the Earth from magical threats, such as Dormammu and Nightmare. The title is earned, and it is a testament to Strange’s skills as a sorcerer that he has held the title as often and as long as he has. Doctor Doom is also highly skilled in magic. For Doom, magic was a tool: a way to liberate his mother’s soul from Mephisto’s clutches. This desire has carried Doom far in his magical studies. In 2024’s One World Under Doom, the villain finally obtained the title of Sorcerer Supreme, having tricked Doctor Strange into relinquishing it. Doom then used the power to take over the world. The heroes were able to stop Doom, and the title passed to the Scarlet Witch, while Doctor Strange became the Sorcerer Supreme of Asgard. Now, Strange and Doom are heading for a rematch sure to send waves across the magical side of the Marvel Universe. Doctor Doom and Doctor Strange Are Heading for a Showdown This November Will Doctor Strange Avenge Himself on Doom? Marvel has released its November solicitations, including a first look at Challenges of Doom: Doctor Strange #1. Written by Al Ewing and drawn by Christian Rosado, the book is part of the Challenges of Doom series, which pits him against his biggest foes and rivals, including Doctor Strange. Marvel released a plot synopsis for Challenges of Doom: Doctor Strange #1, which reads as follows: SORCERER VS. SORCERER! Two of history's most skilled practitioners of magic: DOCTOR DOOM faces DOCTOR STRANGE in a battle metaphysical, physical, current, future, past... encompassing the enormous realms of their intellect and ability! These incredible foes will go to the limits of their powers and beyond to determine who is truly the greatest sorcerer — but what else will be revealed in the process?! Marvel also provided a look at two different covers: one by Fabrizo De Tommaso and another by Peach Momoko. While not specifically billed as a rematch from One World Under Doom, that event will still no doubt cast a shadow over Challenges of Doom: Doctor Strange. Marvel’s solicitation mentioned the fight between the doctors would encompass “past, present and future,” suggesting it would cover the whole of their rivalry, and not just One World Under Doom. Doctor Strange and Doctor Doom Have a Long Rivalry Even if the Challenges of Doom: Doctor Strange does not see Stephen get his revenge on Doctor Doom, the fight will still be epic in scope, and worthy of these two powerful characters. The plot information Marvel released about the book hints that not only will it stretch across their histories, but also potentially reveal new truths about Doctor Doom and Doctor Strange. This leads to the question of what could the two sorcerers be hiding? And what will be revealed about their past? Challenges of Doom: Doctor Strange can mine the long and twisted rivalry between the two. Reed Richards will always be Doctor Doom’s primary adversary, but there is a strong case for Doctor Strange to be a runner-up for the role. Doctor Doom comes from a long line of magical users, whereas Doctor Strange does not. Doom’s magical lineage, combined with his arrogance, has fueled his hatred of Stephen. Doom feels he truly deserves the title of Sorcerer Supreme. The Challenges of Doom: Doctor Strange will not be the first book to focus exclusively on these two sorcerers. In 1989’s Doctor Strange and Doctor Doom: Triumph and Torment, by Roger Stern and Mike Mignola, the two formed an uneasy alliance to free the soul of Victor’s mother. Along the way, Doom proved why he can never be Sorcerer Supreme, or at least for long, by double-crossing Doctor Strange. It is not enough to have the skills, the heart must be in the right place as well. Who Will Prevail: Doctor Strange? Or Doctor Doom? Triumph and Torment is today viewed as a modern classic, meaning Challenges of Doom: Doctor Strange has some big shoes to fill. Both Doctor Strange and Doctor Doom have been through a lot lately, and this new one-shot is the climax of their recent character arcs. Where the two will be at the end of the issue is anyone’s guess, but the spectacle they will put on has the potential to be awe-inspiring and character-defining. Challenges of Doom: Doctor Strange #1 is on sale November 4 from Marvel Comics!
