Marvel Comics is teasing one of the wildest transformations for Wolverine yet. Thanks to some brand-new cover art and a synopsis for an upcoming issue of Wolverine, it seems Logan is about to experience a dark transformation, one that will likely see him succumbing to his worst impulses and instincts. However, it seems as though Wolverine will also have even more claws than normal. Traditionally, Wolverine has six claws that retract from his wrists, three on each hand, with each claw covered in indestructible adamantium (just like the rest of his skeleton following his experimentation by the Weapon X program). However, the new "feral form" that's being teased by Marvel Comics promises to take Logan's typical status as a living weapon even further. With his claws having only just recovered from a pretty significant status quo change, it's going to be fascinating to learn the how and why behind Wolverine's upcoming new design (and extra claws). According to the new cover art and synopsis for Marvel's Wolverine #31 from writer Saladin Ahmed and artist Martín Cóccolo, a dramatic new chapter and arc for Logan will ring in the new year in 2027, with Logan receiving a feral new transformation that will likely see him losing control and becoming even more of an absolute beast. As seen in the above cover art, Logan will seemingly undergo a dark transformation and become even more animalistic, shown covered in fur and with long pointed teeth. However, the biggest change is the reveal that he'll seemingly have smaller adamantium-covered claws on each finger (not unlike Lady Deathstrike), in addition to his classic six wrist claws. That's 16 claws in total, making Logan even more lethal and dangerous than he already was, scratching and stabbing all at the same time in all sorts of bloody new ways. Most importantly, though, the new redesign seems to represent an increased ferocity within Logan with this new transformation, one that he might be able to control. According to the brief new synopsis, "blood and death lies in his wake" for this new Feral Wolverine, though an assist from an unexpected ally may offer him a way out. Marvel Comics' Wolverine JUST Got Back To Normal Truly, the timing of this upcoming transformation that is set to debut in just a few issues from now is pretty ironic. After all, the most recently published Wolverine #28 just restored Logan's familiar claws. Following his recent confrontation with The Adamantine, the spiritual godly metal that inspired the creation of adamantium itself, Wolverine lost the adamantium coating on one of his hands, leaving him mismatched with one set of adamantium claws and one set of bone claws. However, Wolverine #28 saw Forge helping Logan out with a rare store of liquefied adamantium. By the end of the new Wolverine #28, Logan has both of his adamantium claws back with a return to his usual status quo...though this new tease for Wolverine #31 confirms it's not going to last long at all. Overall, it does make the prospect of Wolverine #31 more entertaining. With barely any time to enjoy having his original claws back, Marvel has already begun teasing an upcoming transformation that will likely see Logan having even more weapons on his hands than he knows what to do with. Ultimately, the reason for this new Wolverine transformation remains a mystery, and fans will no doubt have to wait until this new arc really gets going, beginning with the upcoming Wolverine #29. For now, Marvel is promising the imminent debut of a 16-clawed Wolverine who's become furrier, fiercer, and likely more beast than man in the issues to come. Wolverine #31 releases January 6th, 2027 from Marvel Comics.
