Marvel Announces Official Setting For New Fantastic Four Appearance

Midnight Fantastic Four, Midnight Spider-Man, and Midnight X-Men have the unenviable and herculean task of worldbuilding for a brand-new continuity while intimately excavating and developing their title character(s) within it. Midnight Fantastic Four, however, must not only flesh out its own little corner of Marvel Comics’ Midnight mythology, but also hypothesize and posit theories about every other corner of the many universes it explores. This is why, of all the upcoming Marvel Midnight books, Midnight Fantastic Four should constantly boast the most fascinating settings and opportunities to express horror creatively, while Midnight Spider-Man will likely try to outdo itself issue after issue in terms of revolting body horror. Midnight Fantastic Four’s covers tease swirls of vibrant color and Cthulhu-esque nightmares, and the recently unveiled solicitation for issue #3 teases what’s in store. Thanks to Kev Walker’s Midnight Fantastic Four concept art, it’s been teased that Reed, Sue, Johnny, and Ben will travel to at least four unique universes/dimensions/realities, with the possibility of there being countless more. Now, we know that one of them will be dubbed the Hidden World: FINDING THE HIDDEN WORLD! The Four head to the Jornada del Muerto desert in New Mexico, where the first atomic bomb was detonated by Oppenheimer and the Los Alamos labs. And here they discover the residue of another world, left behind by a crack in the firmament. Because this discovery is being made in issue #3, after the Fantastic Four have already received their powers and likely visited other planes of existence, there’s no doubt that the Hidden World will be paramount to the story in Midnight Fantastic Four, or at least its initial arc. Considering that the Hidden World may be named as such due to how imperceptible it is, and the fact that it’s found via a “crack in the firmament,” there is a high likelihood that the Hidden World is the Midnight universe’s answer to the MCU’s Quantum Realm/Marvel Comics’ Microverse. Interestingly, it also seems as if Midnight Fantastic Four may draw inspiration from our real world, suggesting that rift passageways may have torn seams in the Fantastic Four’s universe as a result of nonfictional historical events in this canon. Fantastic Four Has The Best Horror Potential Of Any Marvel Midnight Book Not only is the sky not the ceiling for Midnight Fantastic Four’s cosmic horror potential, but there will hopefully be no sky or ceiling at all. This book can literally conceive of any universe it wants and produce whatever kinds of horrors it wishes from any depth imaginable. For example, it would be neat if the Fantastic Four each receive their powers from four distinct universes, and for those universes to be charted and plumbed. The solicitation for Midnight Fantastic Four #1, which is scheduled to be released on October 7, reads as follows: FIRST STEPS INTO DARKNESS!
