Manufacturing to green economy: PM's 7-point 'Saptdhara' vision for Viksit Bharat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday unveiled a seven-point reform agenda, or 'Shakti ki Saptdhara', for the next generation of reforms, saying the roadmap would help India achieve the goal of Viksit Bharat (developed India).Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivers his Independence Day address at the iconic Red Fort in Delhi on Saturday.Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday unveiled a seven-point reform agenda, or ‘Shakti ki Saptdhara’, for the next generation of reforms, saying the roadmap would help India achieve the goal of Viksit Bharat (developed India).Addressing the nation from the Red Fort on India's 80th Independence Day, PM Modi outlined seven key areas that he said would drive India’s development -- manufacturing, agriculture and food processing, technology and innovation, Gati Shakti (mobility and connectivity), Raksha Shakti (defence security), the green and blue economy, and the country’s soft power.The first focus area is manufacturing, with PM Modi calling for Indian products to become competitive on cost, quality and scale and meet global standards.On agriculture and food processing, the Prime Minister said India must focus on taking its products to global markets and turning them into internationally recognised brands. The third stream is technology and innovation, with an emphasis on digital and communication technologies, said PM Modi. He also said that India must strengthen its capabilities in emerging technologies to drive the next phase of growth.Under Gati Shakti, PM Modi said, the government will focus on faster and seamless connectivity, with high-speed transport and infrastructure playing a key role in improving the movement of people and goods. The Prime Minister stressed that the fifth stream, Raksha Shakti, focusses on making India self-reliant in defence technology. He stressed the need to develop next-generation defence capabilities, including drones and supersonic technologies.The sixth area, he said, is the green and blue economy.
