No second half onslaught from United arrived, with Hull No1 Konstantinos Tzolakis seeing out the game comofr Sign up for the Football newsletter Thank you! Senne Lammens – 6 The Belgian started brilliantly and could not have done anything about Semi Ajayi’s opener after three saves, including from a free Oli McBurnie in the lead up to the goal. Mendy’s header from six yards was unsaveable too. Noussair Mazraoui – 4 The Moroccan was not at the races. After starting well to head clear at the back post to deny Lewis Coyle an opener inside four minutes, Hull began to exploit the space down his channel. The World Cup international then failed to get goal side of debutant Mendy’s header for the Hull star’s goal. Harry Maguire – 6 The 33-year-old endured a shaky start but recovered in his distribution, delivering a great cross into the mixer on 30 minutes. Bizarrely became a forward in the second half, that’s how poor United were. Ayden Heaven – 4 The 19-year-old started every game of pre-season, but was slow to react often and got the run around by Hull hero McBurnie, also leaving the veteran striker unmarked in the lead up to the opener. Heaven is still raw and developing and there’s some time yet before he’s ready to consistently start at this level. He lost six out of his nine duels before the break. And Shaw did not cover himself in glory, struggling to contain Mohamed Belloumi. Andrey Santos – 6 A tough afternoon for the £48m signing. The 22-year-old looked like a deer in headlights at times and was taken out of his misery by Carrick on 68 minutes. Youri Tielemans – 5 Like his pivot partner, the former Villa man struggled on his official United debut in a poor afternoon across the board. Pace was a issue. Showed signs of the strong leadership shown at Villa and in his role as Belgium captain. With 22-year-old Carlos Baleba set to arrive to complete United’s £150m midfield revamp, Tielemans will have to step up and show more this season. Bruno Fernandes – 5 As is often the case: if Fernandes is bad, United are bad. The skipper did more complaining than creating. Fernandes has not got up to speed after underperforming against Milan in Wroclaw last weekend. Bryan Mbeumo – 6 The best of a bad bunch. The forward was denied an opener by excellent one-handed save from Konstantinos Tzolakis and put two chances on a plate for Patrick Dorgu in the first half. The Cameroonian was forced into three positions and tricked to make things happen, often on his own. Patrick Dorgu – 3 The Dane, 21, endured a dismal afternoon as he struggled to threaten down the left hand side and his finishing left a lot to be desired. He paid the price at the break. Perhaps Carrick will be secretly delighted that Rashford is around amid the will-he-won’t-he leave saga. The England star replaced Dorgu at half time. Matheus Cunha – 6 Hull’s three-man defence took the Brazilian out of the game and he did not get a sniff in the first half. SUBS Marcus Rashford (for Dorgu, HT) – 6 Brought some direct running, which was lacking before his introduction. A player who had not made a competitive appearance for United since December 2024 was brought on to save them. Kobbie Mainoo (for Santos, 68) – 6 Benjamin Sesko (for Tielemans, 68) – 5 Comment now
