Man spends 7 years in prison for attempted murder, found dead month after release

A 45-year-old man who was recently released from jail after serving a seven-year sentence in an attempt to murder case was found dead with a bullet wound to his head in Uttar Pradesh's Kannauj district, police said on Friday.Police said the body of Rajkishore Dubey was found around midnight under a tree in Brahman Nagla village. They said the circumstances of his death are being investigated to establish whether it was a case of murder or suicide.According to police, two .315 bore cartridges were recovered from the spot.Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar, Chhibramau Circle Officer Mayank Mishra and Kotwali Station House Officer Kapil Dubey reached the spot after receiving information about the incident. A forensic team was also called, and it collected fingerprints and other evidence.The SP said Dubey was a resident of Merapur village in neighbouring Mainpuri district and had been staying at his sister's house in Brahman Nagla. Family members told police that Dubey had been sentenced to seven years in jail in a case registered under Section 307 of the erstwhile Indian Penal Code (IPC).He had completed his sentence and was released around one and a half months ago. Police said Dubey was unmarried and had shot a man under the influence of alcohol around eight years ago.Family members said they heard a loud sound late on Thursday night and later found Dubey lying in a pool of blood."The cause of death will be clear only after the post-mortem examination," SP Kumar said.
