A man has secured protection orders against two of his adult daughters. The man told the family District Court complex in Dolphin House that he “should have done it years ago” and that they all live together in the family home. He said one of his daughters had pushed him in the past and he was afraid she would “use violence” if he was to move her clothes, which are “all over the place”. The man said his other daughter had threatened him and also put him in fear. He said he had to call gardaí a number of times over the years because of their behaviour and they had advised him to seek protection from the courts. The man said his son had threatened him and was aggressive towards him but does not currently reside in the family home. He also described his son as “ill and sick” and “doesn’t know what he’s doing” and that he should seek medical attention. The man said attending the court to secure an order against his son was “the worst thing that has happened to us as a family”. “I don’t want to fall out with my son,” he said. MacSharry granted the man a protection order on an ex-parte basis and set a full hearing, which the man’s son is expected to attend, for a later date. In a separate case, a young woman secured a protection order against her former partner. The court heard she had previously secured a protection order against the man which had since expired. The woman said it was a “domestic violent” relationship and that recently he had begun messaging her which made her “quite scared”. She said she feared he would come to her home next. MacSharry granted the woman a protection order on an ex-parte basis, which included a specific clause that the man is not to contact her and is to stay away from her home. A full hearing, which the woman’s former partner is expected to attend, was set for a later date.
