The creature also comically wore a top hat and asked trucks to honk their horns. In a Facebook post, Damariscotta Police Chief Erik Josephson said that they carried out a “lengthy, exhaustive, and completely serious investigation” following the frequent sightings. Their investigation concluded that it was in fact just a man in a costume. Chief Josephson stressed that “Bigfoot is not real”, saying he understood that their findings would disappoint some locals. Officer William Smith found the “elusive creature” sitting on Main Street and proceeded to have a “great conversation” with him. Their exchange was reportedly “pleasant” with excited locals interrupting to ask for photos with the legendary beast. Most read in The Sun Josephson said: “Despite our best efforts to gather compelling evidence, not a single Bigfoot grunt was heard. “Frankly, there were members of our department who were secretly hoping we had finally stumbled upon something that would make national news.” While some residents were underwhelmed by the revelation, others found the story a source of comedy and entertainment. On social media, some users laughed at the “trigger- happy” residents, joking that the man “looked more like a large Yorkshire terrier” than a sasquatch. One resident wrote: “You can tell we live in a small town”. Police noted that the community’s sense of unity during the sightings was nearly as rare as the legend itself. They said: “A town full of people willing to stop what they’re doing to investigate a Bigfoot sighting and keep each other safe…honestly, we wouldn’t have it any other way.” Bigfoot is a mythical humanoid creature said to inhabit forests in North America, with hundreds of reported sightings since the mid-20th century. It is described as a large muscular ape-like creature covered in dark fur. The name “Bigfoot” originated in 1958 when construction workers found 16-inch human-like footprints in the mud of the Six Rivers National Forest. The legendary beast is a staple of American and Canadian folklore. Comment now
