Man dies after fall at Hanging Rock summit

The death of a man at tourism spot Hanging Rock on Friday afternoon has prompted the closure of the reserve over the long weekend.Victoria Police said a man died after he fell while climbing onto a rock at the summit of the volcanic formation, which lies 75 kilometres north-west of Melbourne.The man fell just before 1pm."Despite the efforts of several off-duty medical professionals at the scene, the man was unable to be revived and was declared deceased at the scene," a police spokesperson said.Hanging Rock Reserve was closed on Friday and will remain so on Saturday September 26, according to the Macedon Ranges Shire Council.The council cited a medical incident as the reason for the closure.The Grand Final Eve public holiday on Friday made the AFL Grand Final weekend a three-day break for many Victorians.Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
