A major character left to die (Picture: BBC / Metro) EastEnders spoilers follow for Wednesday’s (November 4) episode, which can now be streamed on BBC iPlayer. The episode in question will air at 7:30pm. Craig Ingram’s (Matthew James Bailey) life was left hanging in the balance after terrified Amy Mitchell (Ellie Dadd) hit him across the back of the head with a candlestick. Amy, as viewers know, was groomed by disgraced detective Craig, who first crossed paths with her when investigating the attack on Joel Marshall (Max Murray). When Amy confessed to the crime, Craig used her admission to manipulate her into trusting only him, claiming to have her best interests at heart. When Craig was suspended for gross misconduct relating to his treatment of female colleagues, he claimed that he’d lost his job for protecting Amy, who – knowing he had money woes – offered to get her hands on her inheritance early so that they could flee Walford and start afresh elsewhere. With some help from Max Branning (Jake Wood), Amy successfully accessed the funds and fled the Square with Craig, much to the horror of dad Jack (Scott Maslen). Amy has been groomed by Craig (Picture: BBC / Jack Barnes / Kieron McCarron) Jack has worked tirelessly with the police to try and locate her, with returnee Sean Slater (Rob Kazinsky) on the case too, determined to keep the promise he made to ex Roxy Mitchell (Rita Simons), Amy’s mum. Craig, meanwhile, seethed with rage when the bank account containing the money was frozen and responded by hitting Amy and pressuring her into stealing it from her stepmum’s salon. When Amy gained entry to the business, she was approached by a worried Josh Goodwin (Joshua Vaughn), who showed her a video Denise Fox (Diane Parish) had recorded, where she stated that she’d received some bad news from doctors regarding her health. EastEnders star Matthew James Bailey speaks to Metro... In an exclusive chat with Metro, EastEnders star Matthew James Bailey revealed that he took on the role of ‘creepy’ Craig because of the storyline’s importance. This is an incredibly important thing that EastEnders is doing – they’re willing to speak up about massive social issues that need to be addressed. And as an actor, I think it’s important to take risks and tell important stories, and this is the reason I do it.’ Metro exclusively spoke to Matthew James Bailey(Picture: BBC / Metro) ‘I’ve grown up with incredible female role models in my life: a house full of sisters, my mother and my grandmother and taking on this role was kind of for them. And for all women, really, to spread the message about what manipulation and grooming can look like. ‘It can come in all forms, shapes and sizes and it’s such an important story to tell so I’m incredibly honoured to be a part of that.’ Read our full chat with Matthew here. Fearing Denise was running out of time, Amy urged Craig to take her to the hospital so she could say goodbye. Craig reluctantly did just that, which brought him into Sean’s orbit. Sean had laid the trap, having Denise lie on camera about her health, knowing it would lure Amy – and Craig – out of hiding. Craig stood up to Sean, punching him across the face. Sean, however, was unfazed and punched him right back. Craig turned violent(Picture: BBC) When Amy realised she’d been lied to, she made a beeline for Craig’s car, stunned to see Sean with his arm around the twisted cop’s throat. Craig managed to secure his freedom long enough to get into the car and coax Amy inside, with Sean subsequently seen being hard on himself for allowing them to get away. Back at the bedsit, Craig lamented about what had just happened and berated Amy for defending Sean. Amy assured the villain that she was by his side and that she loved him. But she was ultimately left heartbroken when she overheard Craig making a phone call to Jack, asking him for a large sum of money in exchange for his daughter’s safety. Amy felt used and confronted Craig about the real reason he was fired from the force, with Denise having let slip about his dodgy past. Craig did his best to cover and assured Amy he was simply just trying to get Jack to hand over some money. Amy was left terrified (Picture: BBC) With the scales starting to fall from her eyes, Amy was seeing sinister Craig in a whole new light and thus, after convincing him to go get some food, she used his phone to call Denzel Danes (Jaden Ladega), who was in the company of Sean when he answered the call. Amy revealed that she was being held in a bedsit and made it clear that she’s in danger – which couldn’t have been a more accurate description of her situation given that, mere seconds later, a livid Craig walked through the door to find her on the phone. Is this the end of Craig? (Picture: BBC) A struggle ensued, with Amy desperately trying to avoid another outburst from violent Craig as she locked herself in the bathroom. Craig banged on the door, demanding entry, and when he pushed his way in, he found himself on the receiving end of a candlestick courtesy of a terrified Amy. Craig fell to the floor immediately, losing consciousness. Amy was left reeling by the sight of him on the floor before her. Has she killed Craig? Is this really the end for the villain?
