Major British stationery chain is shutting NINETEEN stores this September – with 30% off clearance sales launched

A MAJOR British stationery chain will shut down 19 stores over the next month – launching 30 per cent off clearance sales. The closures follow the news that the company has confirmed plans for a major restructuring. Closing down sales have been launched within stores, offering shoppers up to 30 per cent off all their stationery goods before the doors shut for good. Sign up for the Money newsletter Thank you! Branches across the UK will be closing throughout the month beginning with Bath, set to close on Tuesday, September 1 after the bank holiday. In that same week, stores in Redcar and Redhill will close on Saturday 5. The Saturday after will see the shutters roll down for the last time on branches in Market Harborough and Uckfield. In the next week, stores in Cambridge, Swindon, Helston and Deal will close down. Basildon, Rustington, Clevedon, Greenford, Kenilworth and Southend-on-Sea will all shutter the following week. The last few days of the month will see the high street say goodbye to branches in Exmouth and Frome. Most read in Money Both the Cardigan and Wells stores have been confirmed to be closing in September, but no date has been given. Last year, the high street arm of WH Smith was sold and rebranded as TG Jones in a £76million deal by private equity firm Modella Capital. However, trading has struggled since the start of this year. On July 1, TG Jones’s owners were granted approval for a company-wide restructure, with around 150 stores now at risk of closure. So far, 19 closures have been confirmed for September with a series of locations also announced to be shutting in October. As part of the restructuring plans, rent cuts are also taking place at other branches.
