Madurai RTO office comes under DVAC scanner

The officers attached to the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) raided the premises of the Regional Transport Office (South), Madurai, and seized ₹1.80 lakh from “brokers” on Wednesday.Sources said following specific inputs, the DVAC officials, led by Additional Superintendent of Police Sathyaseelan and Inspectors Jayaprabha, Ramesh Prabhu and Kumaraguru, conducted the raid from 3 p.m.. They seized ₹60,200 from Kani, who introduced himself as a broker. The DVAC team also seized ₹79,000 from Mariskumar, and the remaining amount as unclaimed money.RTO (South) Karthikeyan was also interrogated by the officials. Preliminary inquiries and confession by some of the brokers suggested that they had collected the money from the public for getting various services done in the RTO office and the money was meant for select officers in the department.A few days ago, a similar raid was conducted at Madurai North Sub-Registrar Office in Chettikulam, and the DVAC officials seized ₹1.86 lakh. The officers found the money stashed in the cupboards used by the staff memebers, including Sub-Registrar (in-charge) Rajan.Camera operator Muthumani 31, Arunpandi 26 from Karuppayoorani, Seerajudeen, 30, from Surya Nagar, Santosh Balaji, 27, from Vandiyur, Venkatesan, 37, from Thirupparankundram and Premkumar, 58, from Kalai Nagar were investigated.A senior official said the DVAC unit received specific complaints of bribery in the office and based on that they conducted the check.
