THE M56 has been shut near a major airport following a multi-vehicle crash causing one car to catch fire. Emergency services have rushed to the M56 in Cheshire near Manchester Airport and closed the road eastbound between J7 Bowden Interchange and J6 Hale Four Seasons Interchange. The road was shut early this morning as the crash caused one car to overturn and another to become engulfed in flames. There is currently two miles of congestion with those heading to Manchester Airport advised to allow extra time for their journey. A national highways spokesperson said: “The M56 eastbound between J7 and J6 near Manchester Airport is being closed following a two-car collision. “One of the cars has overturned.
