National Highways posted on X: “We are supporting National Grid with an emergency closure of the M5 both directions between J22 and J23 near Bridgwater to allow for the inspection and repair of safety critical infrastructure above the carriageway.” It added: “The M5 is now closed in both directions between J22 (Burnham-on-Sea) and J23 (Puriton) to facilitate emergency repairs by National Grid to safety-critical infrastructure above the carriageway. “The closure is required to allow the works to be carried out safely.” Those travelling southbound have been told to exit the M5 at J22 then take the A38. Drivers on the northbound should exit the M5 at J23 (Dunball Interchange) and take the 1st exit on to the A39. Comment now
