M&S officially closes TWO beloved stores for good despite petitions from shoppers

M&S has shut the doors of two popular store locations despite the local community rallying against the closures. The chain confirmed that one of the stores is no longer viable, while shoppers are still unclear on the reason for the closing of the other. A M&S in Aberdeen and another in London have both now closed Credit: Getty Back in late May, it was confirmed that the Marks & Spencer Foodhall in Stoneywood, Aberdeen, would be closing for good on August 15. Both closures sparked petitions from upset customers who both appreciated and relied on the stores for their shopping needs. The Stoneywood petition, launched by Janine Langler, reads: “This store has been a staple in our neighbourhood [for a decade], not only providing quality products but also fostering a sense of community and convenience for residents and visitors. “The closure of this store will pose significant challenges to our community, especially for those who rely on it as an essential service. “The potential closure also threatens local employment and economic stability. Employees of Marks & Spencer and surrounding businesses rely on the footfall generated by the store.” To date, the change.org petition has been signed by 3,089 people. The London M&S petition has had even fewer signatures, only amassing 2,012 at the time of writing. Most read in Money A spokesperson for the London M&S branch at the time attempted to explain the closure and said: “We have however made the tough decision to close our Streatham High Road on Saturday 15th August. “Sadly, we are not able to offer the shopping experience we want to for customers and the store’s performance has not been where it needs to be.” Comment now
