Lufthansa Oktoberfest Flights Take Off With Festive Uniforms, Special Cuisine

With Oktoberfest kicking off in Germany this weekend, Lufthansa is bringing some of the fun to the skies, a tradition that has now been going on at the Star Alliance carrier for 20 years. Specifically: On September 19, these crews will operate flights from Munich (MUC) to Bangalore (BLR) and Beijing (PEK) On September 27, these crews are operating a flight from Munich (MUC) to Singapore (SIN) You’ll also see some ground staff at Munich Airport Terminal 2 wearing traditional Oktoberfest clothing This year, the crews are sporting new attire, designed by Lower Bavarian traditional fashion manufacturer Spieth & Wensky. As it’s described, it combines Bavarian tradition with elements of Lufthansa’s design for the first time. For example, the crane from the brand logo adorns the buttons of the ladies’ and men’s knitwear. The characteristic “wing pattern,” a special Lufthansa design, has also been rewoven into the skirt and waistcoat. Lufthansa’s Oktoberfest crew Here’s how Heiko Reitz, Lufthansa’s Hub Manager Munich, describes this: “For 20 years, our long-haul crews have swapped their uniforms for Bavarian traditional costume during Oktoberfest season: the first traditional costume crew departed on 1 September 2006 from Munich to New York. With the current, modern design, we are continuing the long-standing tradition of traditional costume flights from Munich. Over the coming weeks, Lufthansa will be serving Bavarian specialities onboard select flights. In first and business class, the selection will include starters like white sausage terrine and pretzel tree, mains like Wiesn roast duck and fried chicken, and desserts like apple strudel. In premium economy and economy, Nuremberg bratwurst with Bavarian cabbage and mashed potatoes will be served. Meanwhile in the Lufthansa Senator and Lufthansa Business Lounge Munich, the airline will be serving Munich potato soup, roast pork, and steamed dumplings with vanilla sauce. Meanwhile in the Lufthansa First Class Lounge Munich, the airline will be serving Bavarian duck breast and sweet Oktoberfest delicacies.
