Lucknow woman ties rakhi to cop injured while catching her chain snatcher

The incident was also captured on a nearby CCTV camera.A woman who was on her way to tie a rakhi to her brother ended up tying one to a traffic constable in a Lucknow hospital after he was injured while catching a man who had allegedly snatched her gold chain.The incident took place on Friday when Ruby Kashyap, a resident of Sitapur, was heading to her brother's house near Madiyaon Dhal for Raksha Bandhan.At around noon, a man allegedly snatched the gold chain from her neck and fled. As Kashyap raised an alarm, police and traffic personnel deployed in the area began chasing him.Traffic constable Naveen Chaudhary caught up with the accused a short distance away and tried to restrain him. In an attempt to escape, the accused allegedly picked up a brick and struck Chaudhary twice on the nose. Despite bleeding heavily, the constable held on to him until local police personnel arrived and took him into custody.The accused was identified as Dharmendra Maurya. The incident was also captured on a nearby CCTV camera. Police registered a case against Maurya on charges including snatching and attempt to murder.Chaudhary was taken to Him City Hospital, where he received two stitches on his nose. His condition was later stated to be out of danger.The incident ended on an emotional note at the hospital, where Kashyap tied a rakhi on Chaudhary's wrist, saying the constable had protected her like a brother.
