Lorraine Kelly reveals her mother has been hospitalised aged 85 after suffering a fall - nine months after her father passed away

Lorraine Kelly has revealed her mum is spending her 85th birthday in hospital after suffering a fall.The TV presenter, 66, wished her mother Anne Kelly a happy birthday on her breakfast show on Tuesday and she hopes she will be back on her feet in no time after the health scare. Speaking on Lorraine, the star said: 'Happy birthday to my dear mum. Sadly, she's back in hospital. She had a wee fall.'She added: 'God bless her. I hope she has a good day. Mum, have a great day as much as you can in hospital.'The star also took to Instagram to share a snap of the pair as she wrote: 'Happy 85th birthday to my mum. Sadly celebrating in hospital today after a bad fall resulted in broken arm. 'Saw her at weekend and she’s getting well looked after. Hopefully back home with us soon.' Anne's birthday comes just nine months after she lost her husband, Lorraine's dad John.He passed away in January at the age of 84 after he slipped on icy ground near his and Anne's home in East Kilbride, Scotland.Afterwards, Lorraine told how her family had become 'stronger' following the sudden death of her dad.The TV presenter noted John had been 'in poor health' recently but his passing had still come as a 'shock'. She wrote at the time: 'Very sad news. My dad has died. I am mourning the man who bought me a telescope when I was five years old, who watched the moon landings with me and taught me to always be curious and interested in everything.'He was in poor health but it has still been a shock. Any of you who have experienced a similar loss will know how my brother Graham and I are feeling.'Our priority is taking care of my mum and the family would very much appreciate privacy at this distressing time. We will miss you dad.'Lorraine got 'teary' reading the dedication she penned for him in her latest novel, The Island Secret. Anne's birthday comes just nine months after she lost her husband, Lorraine's dad John (Lorraine pictured with her parents in 2002)The broadcasting legend added in Radio Times magazine: 'He died in January, when I was giving the story a last tinker and polish, so he never got to read it.'Lorraine said: 'It was a tough January, and we're not over it; we're just trying to remember the good of his life, and not focus on the end of it.'The ITV star said the loss has brought her family closer, adding: 'It's difficult, but it's made us stronger as a family.'Dedicating The Island Secret to John was 'very special' for Lorraine, as he and Anne instilled in her a 'love of books as a child'.John worked as a TV service engineer and passed on his love of astronomy and science to his daughter.He was married to Lorraine's mother Anne for over 65 years. John was 18 and Anne was 17 when they had their daughter. Their son Graham was born six years later.Writing in The Times, Lorraine said of her childhood in the Gorbals area of Glasgow: 'Until I was 13, all four of us - me, my brother and my mum and dad - lived in the one room. 'In one corner you had your sink and your cooker, and there was a recess where your bed was. Then there was an absolutely disgusting outside toilet, and you went to the public baths to have a bath. 'My mum kept our place immaculate - which is where I get my tidy gene from. To this day, I can't leave washing up in the sink, because I think the tidy police are going to arrest me.'She praised her father for taking their family out of a 'deprived background' through 'sheer hard graft'. The family later moved to Bridgeton and eventually settled in East Kilbride where Lorraine began her media career working for local newspaper the East Kilbride News.
