Liverpool university students top list as the most forgetful, new poll reveals

And with students living an average of 129 miles away from home, many have had to make do, with 43 per cent forced to spend more money than they had originally planned to buy a new item. It also emerged 81 per cent of students have spent an average of £40.56 on replacing items they’d accidentally left at home. The installation at Liverpool Lime Street also included headphones, slippers and notebooks Credit: Dave Phillips/PinPep These were all things students admitted to forgetting to bring to term Credit: Dave Phillips/PinPep Catherine Lyver for Railcard.co.uk, which was behind the pop up and research, said: “Moving to university can come with a seemingly endless packing list, so it’s no surprise that many students experience that sinking feeling when they realise they’ve left an important item behind. “Our research suggests that forgetting something is almost a rite of passage when moving to university. “That’s why we’ve stocked our 16-25 Railcard vending machine with some of the most forgotten items, helping Liverpool students avoid last-minute panic as they settle into the new term.” The study also found 66 per cent of British students would describe themselves as forgetful, with 48 per cent not realising they’d left something behind until they were unpacking. Most read in The Sun Others didn’t realise until they needed to use the item (46 per cent), when their family notified them (18 per cent) and when they were travelling to university (33 per cent). Interestingly, on the items deemed the most essential, laptops (70 per cent) and chargers (65 per cent) scored higher than underwear (63 per cent). The OnePoll study also found 57 per cent of students reckon there’s too much to remember when it comes to moving to university. It also emerged 53 per cent would typically take the train to get to university due to it being the quickest way to travel (24 per cent) and more affordable (17 per cent).
