According to Fabrizio Romano, they will not be included in Sunday’s opening Ligue 1 match away at Rennes. The attacking duo were left out of the Trophee Des Champions final defeat to Lens last week as well. And that came after they played no role in the Uefa Super Cup win over Aston Villa just days previously. Barcola and Mbaye were at the World Cup with France and Senegal respectively, and have a host of competition for a spot in the line-up. Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue, and Khvicha Kvaratskelia were already key members of Enrique’s group, and they have bolstered that with Maghnes Akliouche’s arrival from Monaco. When asked about the bold decision to leave Mbaye and Barcola at home for the Lens clash, Enrique stormed out of his post-match interview. But he is valued at £140million which has proven far too much so far for Liverpool. Iraola and Co are set to push for a new winger in the final days of the window.
