‘Life-changing’ result in St Leger for Saffie Osborne as she becomes first woman to win a British Classic

SportHorse Racing SAFFIE OSBORNE was moved to tears as she became the first female jockey to win a British Classic at Doncaster. She rode 11-1 shot Highwayman to a stunning two-and-a-half length success in the 250th running of the St Leger in a ‘life-changing’ result. Saffie Osborne became the first female jockey to win a British Classic in the St Leger Credit: PA Osborne, 24, who only got the call up to ride the Joseph O’Brien-trained colt on Tuesday, celebrated wildly as she crossed the line ahead of Enceladus – who gave the trainer a famous one-two. It’s incredible. “I woke up this morning and had a really good feeling about today. “I didn’t have that on my bingo card at the start of the week, I didn’t even have a ride at the start of the week. I only found out on Tuesday when I checked my booked rides and saw I was on him. “And when I saw it was the 250th year, I thought surely there has to be a good story this year? I thought a girl winning would be quite a good story. “This is the sort of thing that changes your life, no-one can ever take it away from you.
