Kyiv Declares Drone Threats Despite Supposed 3-Day Ceasefire

Kyiv has declared a red missile threat warning on the evening of Monday, Sept. 7, despite the supposed three-day ceasefire announced during the visit by US envoys. At 8:40 p.m., a local monitoring channel reported two jet-powered drones from the north heading toward the suburb of Brovary, immediately east of Kyiv, and another from the south toward the city of Kaharlyk, south of Kyiv. Ten minutes later, the channel reported one approaching the southern part of Kyiv’s left bank, and another flying on the right bank along the Dnipro River towards the south. At 8:45 p.m., the Ukrainian Air Force also cautioned locals in Kyiv to stay in shelter after reporting a jet-powered drone flying over the city. Conflicting accounts over ceasefire duration There is contradictory information about whether the ceasefire started at midnight on Friday or Saturday, which also dictates whether it ends at midnight on Monday or Tuesday. Local outlet Ukrainska Pravda reported on Saturday that Russia agreed to a ceasefire that started at midnight on Saturday and is set to last until 11:59 on the evening of Tuesday, Sept. 8. Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed on Saturday that Moscow stopped launching strikes at midnight between Friday and Saturday, according to Russian state media RIA Novosti, which would mean the ceasefire effectively ends at 11:59 p.m. on Monday. Attacks on Ukraine, Russia continued despite ceasefire call While Ukraine initially called for a ceasefire across the front and rear, Russia only proposed a pause on strikes against Kyiv and Moscow. Over the weekend, explosions have continued across Ukraine and Russia – including near Kyiv on Saturday. On Saturday afternoon, after Kyiv authorities issued an air raid warning at 3:03 p.m., a Kyiv Post correspondent heard explosions in a village near the suburb of Boryspil immediately southeast of Kyiv. The attack followed another wave of drone strikes that killed at least five civilians and injured 17 others across Kharkiv, Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Khmelnytskyi regions late on Saturday.
