Fix wires PlasmaScreencastV1Session and ignoreNextSystemClipboardChange to enable local clipboard. Many other changes are coming; read the This Week in Plasma digest for full details. Every week, the KDE community gives us a peek into what's cooking in the upcoming versions of KDE Plasma. For today's This Week in Plasma, the community has revealed that KDE Plasma 6.8 will finally fix remote desktop sessions not sharing the clipboard both ways. And while KDE Plasma 6.8 is still a few months from release, it's nice to see that something's being done about this annoying issue. KDE Plasma 6.8 will finally let the remote desktop clipboard work both ways It seems a bug was preventing it from working properly Among the patch notes listed in This Week in Plasma, there are a handful of changes scheduled for KDE Plasma 6.8. The spotlight feature for this version is a tweak to how the remote desktop clipboard works. Right now, only the server can send data to the client, but this fix will allow data to go both ways. From the looks of the fix's patch notes, it appears this was always meant to be the case, but something wasn't working properly: Only PortalSession forwards the local clipboard to the client right now. PlasmaScreencastV1Session's setClipboardData() is a no-op and it never listens for local clipboard changes at all, so Plasma sessions have no clipboard support. PortalSession also has a dead ignoreNextSystemClipboardChange field that was added but never wired up, so applying the client's clipboard locally can bounce straight back out as if it were a new local copy. Fortunately, KDE Plasma 6.8 will synchronise the clipboard and wire up that missing field, so you can use the clipboard on either side of the remote connection. There are a ton of other changes, both scheduled for KDE Plasma 6.8 and for earlier releases, so be sure to give the entire digest a read if you want all the details. KDE Plasma 6.8 is currently scheduled to release mid-October 2026.
