Katie Miller is already jumping on baseless election conspiracy theories and spreading them to her MAGA followers after voting issues were reported in New York. Election officials in Westchester County, New York, said they were aware of problems with voting scanners - and ballots not being scanned properly - and assured the public that every vote would be counted. But Miller, the wife of White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, seized on the social media post of a voter in Westchester County - where Republican incumbent Rep. Mike Lawler in a tight race against Democrat Cait Conley in New York’s 17th Congressional District race - and used it to cast doubt on election integrity. “This is how the Left steals elections,” Miller said Tuesday morning. “Mike Lawler’s competitive district and they are turning away voters.”The X user, named Ben Hort according to the profile, said he was initially unable to cast his vote in his district and was told to come back later. This is going to be crazy. Our country is in trouble.”Other users swiftly challenged Hort, who then clarified, “That is what she said. She just misspoke by calling it an absentee ballot,” he said, referring to a poll worker. “I don’t feel like I was turned away but it’s not ideal.”Hort’s post has received over 400,000 views since it was shared by Miller, who was accused of being “wildly irresponsible” by some.“That is literally not what is happening and you are spreading known lies,” writer and activist Amy Siskind replied to Miller.“The reason people say maga's a cult is precisely because cults require adherents to believe in stupid falsehoods in order to make the cult leader right,” said journalist Robert Lusetich.Other journalists and pundits pointed to another flaw in Miller’s theory. Textbook election-rigging by Dems, suppressing the vote in a county Kamala Harris carried by 26 pts,” said The Atlantic’s Tim Alberta. “This is the Democratic part of the district,” said Semafor’s Ben Smith.Adam Carlson of polling firm Zenith Polls also highlighted that Westchester County is “the most Democratic part of the district,” backing it up with data. Westchester County executive Ken Jenkins said his office was aware of the issues with voting scanners in the area and said the situation was “unacceptable.”“Voters should remain in line and exercise their right to vote,” Jenkins said in a statement. “Every eligible voter will have the opportunity to cast their ballot, and every vote must be counted. I have directed County officials, including representatives from our Law Department, to monitor the voting process and ensure that voters can cast their ballots without interference and that every vote is properly and accurately counted.”Jenkins said a bipartisan group would review what went wrong once the voting machine issues are resolved.“Westchester County voters deserve a fair, secure and seamless election process. Today, we have fallen short of that standard,” Jenkins concluded. “The voters deserve better, and I intend to make sure they get it.”
