JUCO RB Ahmir Smith commits to Kentucky football

How about a fun depth addition for Kentucky football in mid-July? Will Stein has picked up a commitment from Garden City CC running back Ahmir Smith — the same JUCO powerhouse that gave the Wildcats both Terry Wilson and Lonnie Johnson Jr. Smith, who stands 5-10, 204 pounds, originally signed with Northern Illinois out of high school before taking the JUCO route. He will have three seasons of eligibility remaining in Lexington. The newest Wildcat rushed for 322 yards and five touchdowns on 74 carries this past season while adding 14 receptions for 183 yards and three scores through the air. Smith joins five other running backs in the current room, headlined by top options Jovantae Barnes and CJ Baxter — Oklahoma and Texas transfers, respectively. Jason Patterson, Tovani Mizell and Delvecchio Alston are the other scholarship talents in the Kentucky backfield. He shared some spring ball clips on social media as the search for a new home in college football began, announcing new offers from Western Michigan and Prairie View A&M at the time. Smith previously committed to Jackson State before reopening his recruitment to explore additional options. A Santee, S.C. native, he was a three-year varsity letter-winner at Calhoun County High School, racking up 3,600 career yards and 60 touchdowns en route to All-Region honors in 2021, 2022 and 2023.
