Johnny Depp’s First Sculpture To Be Unveiled At Art Fair

Johnny Depp’s first sculpture, a two-metre white bronze called ‘The Bunnyman’, will be unveiled at Turkish art fair Contemporary Istanbul, which runs 22–27 September. The artwork will be presented outdoors at Tersane Istanbul, the historic Ottoman shipyard on the Golden Horn, as one of the fair’s special projects.The sculpture is described as a “half-human, half-rabbit guardian carrying a ‘sword of truth’”. The work began with a drawing by Depp’s son Jack, aged around five, which reminded Depp of his own recurring childhood dream. The figure has since appeared across Depp’s sketches, paintings, and prints. The sculpture came about through a collaboration between the Sigg Art Foundation, Pantheon Art, and Fonderia Artistica Battaglia in Milan. Watch on Deadline The unveiling coincides with Depp’s exhibition, A Bunch of Stuff, at the Modern Art Museum Shanghai, which features more than 200 of his art works. Depp, who is in post on movies Ebenezer and Day Drinker, said: “When people see the painting I did — The Bunnyman — they always ask the same question: where did it come from? Some character that Jack had scribbled, beautiful scribbles into that shape, that image, reminded me of a kind of recurrent dream that I had as a child, probably around Jack’s age, five, six…”
