John Harbaugh expects Jameis Winston to remain QB1 no matter who Giants add at the position

Published September 27, 2026 08:56 PM It wasn’t pretty — and it was only the winless Titans — but Jameis Winston won his first game as a starter since Dec. 15, 2024, when he was with the Browns.His 119 passing yards were enough for a 12-7 win and enough for him to keep the starting job, no matter who the Giants add at the position this week.“Yes. Yes, I do,” coach John Harbaugh said when asked whether he believes Winston will remain the team’s starter, via Jordan Raanan of ESPN. “Yes, I do.”Winston replaced starter Jaxson Dart, who is out for the season after undergoing knee surgery Friday.On a wet, windy day, the Giants went with a conservative game plan, and Winston had no turnovers. Coach John Harbaugh said Winston did what was “required.” “The plans are the plans. The opportunities that you have are the opportunities you have,” Harbaugh said. “No matter what, we’re going to do everything we can to make our team as strong as we can based on what options we have.”Jake Haener served as Winston’s backup against the Titans. The Giants are expected to add a veteran this week, with Jimmy Garoppolo, Gardner Minshew and J.J. McCarthy among the options.“I’m not worried about that. I don’t care about that,” offensive tackle Jermaine Eluemunor said. “Jameis is our quarterback now. We’re going to ride with him for the rest of the season.”
