Jodie and Shona’s final showdown as a shooting rocks Coronation Street

Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances-Brown) versus Shona Platt (Julia Goulding). One gets a place in the Platt family… the other gets a bullet. In the words of Taylor Swift – it’s been a long time coming. From the moment Jodie first escaped from the back of Graham Foster’s (Andrew Scarborough) van in the Corriedale crossover, we knew she was trouble when she walked in (I’ll stop now). Every sinister glare at Shona, every time she was just a bit too eager to help out with their premature baby Harper, and every times she made cow eyes at her half-sister’s husband, David (Jack P Shepherd). They were all telltale signs of her chilling plans for revenge. This harks back to the Ramsay’s sisters’ troubled childhood, when a pregnant teenage Shona couldn’t bare living under the same roof as their father volatile and unstable dad Doug anymore and fled the family home, leaving poor Jodie behind. Jodie and Shona have a dark and complicated family history (Picture: ITV) It turns out Jodie took this pretty personally, because she’s been on a one-woman mission to steal her sister’s family ever since – and things are getting dark. It’s not enough that she kept a stolen gun in the same house as her teenager niece Lily (Grace Ashcroft Gardner), or that she assaulted Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) because she ‘mistook her’ for one of the big burly thugs who showed up at the Platts doorstep due to Jodie getting on the wrong side of some wrong’un. Recently, Jodie did the unthinkable – target a child. In an attempt to make Shona look like an unfit mother in David’s eyes, the Cobbles Cuckoo-in-the-nest intentionally placed a burnt cake back while Shona slept on the sofa, filling the house with smoke and making it seem like her sister had been careless. Jodie put Shona in serious danger. (Picture: ITV) Worse still as, she risked hurting Shona’s premature daughter baby Harper and pouring boiling water into her bath tub – just to make Shona look bad. The return of their dad Doug has thrown a serious spanner in the works for Jodie, especially as he’s growing very suspicious about her unhinged behaviour. That’s why she’s resorting to tampering with his medication to make it seem like his bipolar disorder is clouding his judgment. Jodie’s up to no good – again. (Picture: ITV) But Doug isn’t even the only Weatherfield resident that could bring down Jodie. Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) has clashed with the bunny-boiling baddie when she slept with her mother’s ex-boyfriend Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), who Jodie was keen to get her claws into. Bethany is already not Jodie’s biggest fan, seeing as she kept quiet about attacking her mother for weeks before finally confessing. Little does Bethany know that Jodie’s got ammunition against Bethan – a recording of her and Kit secretly discussing how their one-night-stand was a mistake. There are so many things and people to bring Jodie down… but then again, she’s wily enough to triumph over Shona. Which sister will emerge victorious? We’ll get our answer, in upcoming episodes of Corrie. When David reveals that Doug has swiped both the toaster and the biscuit tin, Jodie plays it down and assures him that he probably just needs to have his meds tweaked. Meanwhile, Shona confides in Bethany that she’s worried about her own mental state as she often hears Harper crying when she isn’t there. When Jodie calls Doug’s doctor and accuses him of being a danger to the family, the mental health team arrives to assess him. Shona tearfully tells him how sorry she is as Doug is led away. But he leaves his daughter with a chilling warning to watch her back where Jodie is concerned. Will Shona listen? Will Jodie heed Doug’s warning? (Picture: ITV) Later, Bethany catches Jodie red handed but Jodie has her own plan to keep Bethany quiet… As Jodie returns home with Shona’s birthday cake, she finds Shona frantically searching the living room. Shona explains that she heard the crying again but it sounded like a recording rather than the real thing. As David and Jodie set about decorating the bistro for Shona’s birthday party, Lily arrives. When Lily’s phone is plugged into the docking station, suddenly the room is filled with the sound of Harper crying. Shona accuses Lily of recording Harper’s crying in a bid to convince her she was losing her mind. Swearing blind that she’s no idea how Harper’s crying found its way onto her phone, an upset Lily flees from the party. Is Lily telling the truth or has Jodie influenced her? Then we build to an epic flashforward at Number 8, where the living room is strewn with someone’s belongings as a paramedic tends to a casualty on the floor. Who will die in the shooting at No.8?
