Jet2 flight from Stansted forced to make 'emergency U-turn' one hour after take-off

A Jet2 flight travelling from Stansted Airport to Ibiza has been forced to make a sudden U-turn following an emergency.The plane was flying at 35,000ft when it issued a "squawk 7700" code, an international signal for general emergencies.Pilots then carried out a 180-degree U-turn over northern France, as air traffic controllers allowed an emergency landing at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport before 11am, The Mirror reports.The aircraft is understood to be a Boeing 737-800 model and around 27 years old. It departed Stansted at around 8.10am before encountering an emergency about an hour after take-off.The plane is described as a twin-engine narrow-body airliner and previously flew with carriers including Dutch low-cost airline Transaviam, before entering Jet2's fleet.Emergency ground crews were prepared and on standby at Paris Charles de Gaulle as the plane descended.The latest air traffic control data indicates that the airline will continue a flight from Paris to Ibiza soon.Jet2 has been approached for comment.
