Jayden Daniels injury update: ESPN insider shares latest on Washington star QB

(AP Photo/Julio Cortez)AP Photo/Julio CortezBy Matt Connolly | mconnolly@pennlive.comWashington Commanders star quarterback Jayden Daniels was injured during the second quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys.Daniels left the game with a dislocated elbow, the same injury he suffered during the 2025 season.ESPN insider Adam Schefter provided an update on Daniels Monday morning on Get Up.“He’s going to miss significant time,” Schefter said. “Now, he dislocated his left elbow last year and missed four games. Now, yesterday the x-rays at the stadium were negative. He’ll undergo further imaging today. But the question is, what do they do about this?”The injury to Daniels came in the final seconds of the first half.The former LSU star took the snap from under center and began to drop back when left guard Chris Paul stepped on his foot.Daniels got off balance and put his left arm down to brace himself, injuring his elbow when he did.He stayed down on the field for several minutes before being taken away on a cart.Schefter said Monday morning that surgery could be an option as the Commanders look to prevent the injury from recurring.“He’s going to miss minimum, the same time you would think, as last year. Then the question is, is there ligament damage? Do they decide to do surgery? All these options will be discussed and figured out today, how they want to handle it moving forward,” Schefter said. “But for the time being, Jayden Daniels won’t be playing for a little while. Marcus Mariota will step in. And you have to wonder what it’s going to take to get him healthy, to keep him on the field, because he’s a great young player who’s been sidelined.Washington was trailing Dallas 17-10 and had the ball at the Cowboys’ 1-yard line when Daniels was injured.The third-year pro was 11 of 17 passing for 96 yards and a touchdown prior to exiting the game.
