Published August 20, 2026 09:40 AM Travis Hunter says he’d love to play every snap on both offense and defense for the Jaguars. But the Jaguars have other ideas.Reporters in Jacksonville this week say Hunter is playing defense almost exclusively, a strong indication that the team plans for him to play mostly cornerback when the regular season starts. He’ll likely see some snaps at wide receiver as well, but in a part-time role. The Jaguars already had Hunter practicing more at cornerback than wide receiver before this week, but on Monday, it was all defense: Hunter got zero 11-on-11 snaps on offense, according to John Shipley of SI.com.At Wednesday’s joint practice with the Panthers, Hunter played 28 snaps on defense and two on offense, according to Garry Smits of the Florida Times-Union. Hunter actually did more at kicker than at wide receiver, although that appeared to be mostly messing around, and he missed four of his five field goal attempts, so it’s safe to say the Jaguars won’t be turning to him if kicker Cam Little gets hurt.Jaguars coach Liam Coen indicated this week that when Hunter comes off the practice field on defense, the coaching staff would rather have Hunter continue watching the defense and taking mental reps than going to the other side and playing offense. That sure sounds like a coach who believes Hunter can help his team most on the defensive side of the ball.
