J&K cops crack down on Pak-linked module using drones to smuggle drugs, weapons

Police have unearthed a Pakistan-linked network involved in air-dropping consignments of weapons and drugs near the International Border in Jammu district, sources told India Today on Tuesday.Three persons have been arrested in connection with the matter, they added.One pistol, two magazines, four live rounds, 500 g of heroin and 500 g of opium were allegedly recovered in Arnia near the India-Pakistan International Border as part of the operation against the purported module.According to the sources, the accused received two consignments smuggled using drones and are suspected to be in touch with Pakistan-based handlers. The police have invoked sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and Arms Act in the case. Further investigation into the matter is underway.DEVELOPMENT DAYS AFTER PAK TERRORIST KILLEDThe development comes days after a top Pakistani terrorist, believed to be a former commando of the Pakistan Army's elite Special Services Group (SSG), was killed in a high-altitude operation by the Army in Yousmarg in Budgam district of central Kashmir. Mohd Asif, alias Hashim Moosa, the chief operational commander of proscribed Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in the region and one of the masterminds of the 2025 Pahalgam terror attack.With his killing, the entire group of four senior LeT commanders operating in Jammu and Kashmir since 2022, and responsible for sensational attacks like Halan attack (Aug 2023), DKG attack (Dec 2023), Kandi attack (May 2023), Shahsitar attack (May 2024), Shiv Khori attack (June 2024), Gagangir attack (Oct 2024), Bootapathri attack (Oct 2024) and Baisaran attack (Apr 2025), stands neutralised, according to a statement issued by the Union Home Ministry on Wednesday, September 30.- Ends(With additional inputs from PTI)
