One chapter of Russell Crowe's streaming era has come to a close. After a relatively quiet 2025, this year has seen the Oscar winner return in full force, beginning with the well-received sports drama Beast, which he helped co-write. The rest of his releases scored a range of reviews from critics, with the Ethan Hawke-starring historical drama The Weight still sitting as his best-received movie of the year with its 94% "Certified Fresh" rating. Now, one of his more polarizing titles has ended its successful streaming run. Helmed by Emmy nominee Janus Metz, Unabomber takes a different approach to telling the infamous story of American domestic terrorist Ted Kaczynski. The 100-minute crime thriller simultaneously follows the FBI's investigation into his attacks, namely the efforts of fictional FBI agent Joane Miller to decipher his manifesto, and his time at Harvard University, where he participated in a series of psychological experiments conducted by polarizing professor Henry Murray. With a star-studded roster led by Jacob Tremblay as Kaczynski, Crowe as Murray, Emmy winner Shailene Woodley as Miller, and Annabelle Wallis as fellow Harvard Professor Christiana Morgan, among others, Unabomber ultimately failed to resonate with critics, securing a 25% "Rotten" approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Even still, the biographical crime thriller has proven a solid viewership hit for Netflix, remaining in its Top 10 for nearly a month straight. Crowe's Unabomber Is No Longer A Top 10 Netflix Hit Now, after amassing nearly 53 million views in its first few weeks of release, Unabomber has officially reached the end of its era as being a Top 10 Netflix hit. As per FlixPatrol, Crowe's crime thriller initially fell from the chart on October 16 before returning on October 20 at the No. 10 position, but has now officially spent a full week out of the Top 10, pointing to the likelihood it won't return barring any new releases that could serve as a companion piece to it. After getting off to a modest start for the streamer, debuting with a solid 16.4 million views, it initially seemed as though Unabomber had the chance to stick it out in Netflix's top charts for a long while when its second week viewership actually saw a 52% bump up, ending said week with 24.9 million new views. However, the writing clearly hit the wall when its third week rolled around, as both Ben Affleck's Animals and Tyler Perry's Doing Life took the top spots, and Crowe's thriller shot down to No. 7 with 7.3 million views. The Oscar Winner Continues To Dominate Streaming Elsewhere Rearrange the movies into the correct US release order. Though Unabomber may no longer be holding its Top 10 Netflix title, it's certainly not the end of the world for Crowe when it comes to streaming charts. The actor's other new crime thriller, The Get Out, has been holding firm in Paramount+'s Top 10 Movies chart for well over a month now, while fellow biographical thriller Nuremberg has been climbing multiple platforms' global charts, and his Oscar-winning Gladiator just roared back to life on Netflix following its sequel's addition to the platform. Moreover, though unlikely as of now, there is still a chance that Unabomber could make its way back to Netflix's Top 10 at some point in the future. True crime remains one of the most popular subgenres on the air, and with many Netflix users still hungry for more tense content like Joe Penhall and David Fincher's Mindhunter, they may find their way back to Crowe's film in order to fill that void.
