It’s Officially The End Of An Era For Prime Video’s 140-Minute Space Opera

Prime Video's new space opera just took a hit on streaming after an incredibly successful run on streaming, and it marks the official end of an era for the movie that became a global sensation. Right now, Prime Video is experiencing newfound success with the release of a new original movie. That would be the romance The Love Hypothesis, which has skyrocketed to #1 on the streaming service in several countries. New movies coming in and dethroning projects that were on the streamer's charts before is part of the natural shift in the medium, and The Love Hypothesis is just the latest to do it. That film originally started as a Star Wars fan fiction. Star Wars is the biggest sci-fi movie franchise of all time, releasing several successful space operas in theaters. Even Star Wars movies that failed to do well on the big screen, such as 2026's The Mandalorian and Grogu, have found new life on streaming, with the Pedro Pascal space opera currently doing well on Disney+ nationwide and around the world. Similar to that sci-fi movie, the 2026 version of Masters of the Universe was initially a box office bomb, but it turned it around as a Prime Video streaming sensation, though that era has ended. Masters Of The Universe Is No Longer A Top 10 Hit At the time of writing, Masters of the Universe has finally fallen off Prime Video's Top 10 Movies chart in the United States. The space opera was last seen on the streaming service's domestic chart on September 28, ranking 8th on Prime Video. However, in a single day, the movie that merges aspects of the sci-fi and fantasy genres dropped off the chart altogether. This comes as two movies just entered Prime Video's top United States chart, with the Jack Reacher franchise boosted by the news that Alan Ritchson's Reacher was renewed for season 6 by Prime Video. However, Ritchson has never starred in a movie as the character, but Tom Cruise has, and the star's Jack Reacher is now the 7th most-watched movie on Prime Video in the US, while its sequel, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, stands tall as the streamer's 4th most popular film nationwide right now. After Masters of the Universe's fall from the Prime Video chart, two movies are now on the verge of falling off it. Those are Keanu Reeves' supernatural Good Fortune, which dropped six spots already, and Jon Bernthal's spy thriller The Amateur, which dropped four positions. The He-Man movie debuted on Prime Video on July 22, and when it left the streamer's charts, Masters of the Universe had been on a 67-day streak on Prime Video in the US per FlixPatrol. That means the new space opera had been trending for a long time since its debut on the streamer. Even though it might have only brought in $113.8 million on a reported budget of $170 million, Masters of the Universe's streaming success could make a sequel viable if it is made for Prime Video.
