After the end of the popular fantasy series, HBO went right back to the franchise with two spinoffs. The first of those was House of the Dragon, which is as dark as the original series and focuses on the Targaryens and their dragons as they fought over control of the realm around 200 years before Game of Thrones. In 2026, the franchise's second spinoff, the lighter A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, was released to global success. However, 2026 was not only marked by the debut of a new Game of Thrones series, as House of the Dragon returned with season 3, exploring Rhaenyra Targaryen's fall from grace, and seeing the death of many important characters. As new episodes of House of the Dragon season 3 aired weekly, the HBO fantasy series rose to become the most-watched show on HBO Max worldwide. That also included a leading turn when it came to the streaming service's nationwide chart. However, House of the Dragon's dominant era on the streamer has now come to an end after a major update. House Of The Dragon Is No Longer A Top 10 Hit House of the Dragon is no longer on HBO Max's Top 10 TV Shows chart in the United States. The fantasy series had either been leading the chart or was at the very least present in it since the day after season 3 debuted on HBO Max, June 22. The show was expected to gradually lose steam on streaming, given how House of the Dragon season 3 aired its last episode on August 9. As such, with the fantasy series' final day on HBO Max's Top 10 TV Shows chart in the US being September 6, it did so in less than a month. It is important to note that, according to data from FlixPatrol, House of the Dragon is the 4th most-watched movie or TV show on HBO Max's TOP 10 Overall through Amazon Channels. As of this Monday, September 7, HBO Max's nationwide TV chart packs a few high-profile shows in House of the Dragon's absence. At #1 is the Game of Thrones spinoff's replacement, DC's Lanterns, which has taken House of the Dragon's Sunday night spot on HBO. The chart also features series like Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, Hard Knocks, President Curtis, Rick and Morty, and more. It's A Surprisingly Quick Fall From Grace While it was expected for House of the Dragon to fall from HBO Max's Top 10 TV Shows chart at some point, the fact that it did so less than a month after the season 3 finale aired is surprising. After all, with all eight episodes of the fantasy series now on the streaming service, this would be the perfect time for HBO Max subscribers to either rewatch the whole season or finally get to binge it for the first time. Given how House of the Dragon season 3 only holds a decent 65% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, that might have played a role.
