In its opening season, Silo unfolded as a mystery-box thriller, reminding viewers of shows like Lost and From where viewers are as clueless about its main setting as its characters. The show evolved into a more political survival drama in season 2 as it revealed new mysteries surrounding the hierarchy that controls the titular silo. Going into season 3, Silo doubled down on both its political and survival thriller elements as it walked through two timelines. While the past timeline hinted at the real political conspiracies that drove the construction of the silos, the present focused on Silo 18's quest for survival against all odds. By the time Silo season 3 ended its run, though, the show seemed to experience a major narrative shift. Each new Silo season, so far, has moved the overarching plot forward. Even the main character, Juliette, has gone through significant changes. With season 4, however, the Apple TV sci-fi show seems to be entering a whole new era where it walks through the endgame of its fascinating post-apocalyptic story. Silo Has Already Resolved Its Biggest Mystery Throughout seasons 1, 2, and 3, Silo's biggest mystery revolved around the nature of the outside world. The show's story began with a character named Allison suspecting that the outside world was safe. Convinced that they were being lied to about the toxic environment in the outside world, Allison stepped out and died. Her husband, Holston, met with the same fate after he went out. If it wasn't for the "good" heat tape, Juliette, too, would have died when she was forced to leave Silo 18. Interestingly, though, Silo season 3 suggests that the outside world might actually be safe for humans. It features a flashback scene where the people of Silo 17 leave their underground bunker and seem completely normal. Daniel from Silo 1 deploys drones that perform an "External Safeguard" to wipe them all out. If the outside world was actually toxic and the people of Silo 17 were, anyway, going to die, why would Daniel use drones to kill them? Even in Silo season 3's ending, Daniel deploys drones over Silo 18 because he fears that its people might leave and figure out that the outside world is safe. With this massive overarching mystery resolved, Apple TV's Silo only has a few questions to answer in season 4. After season 3, it is less of a mystery-box drama and more of a conspiracy thriller about a pre-planned world-ending event. Juliette’s Purpose Completely Shifts Going Into Silo Season 4 In Silo season 1, Juliette's narrative was driven by her quest to find the truth. Her season 2 narrative was primarily about survival as she struggled to find a way to return home. Season 3 walked through a journey of retaining her memory and finding her feet as the leader of Silo 18's rebellion. With season 3's ending, Juliette finally returns to form and confidently leads her people to freedom. Instead of becoming defensive and only attempting to survive Silo 1's tyranny, Juliette suggests she and her people should fight back. They should plan an attack on Silo 1 to ensure every other silo in their world is set free from control and oppression. Before going into season 4, Juliette has experienced a complete rite of passage and is all prepared to give Silo 1's authorities a taste of their own medicine. Silo’s Endgame Is Less About Mysteries & More About An All-Out War Silo season 3 establishes that nothing in its world is as it seems. Even the apocalypse that started it all was somehow orchestrated by Stensen and Thurman. It even reveals the true nature of the outside world and also discloses the identities of the people that pull all the strings from Silo 1. Before Silo season 3 ends its run, it also hints that Daniel will gradually regain his memories and set out to help Silo 18. Owing to these developments, it is hard not to see how Silo season 4 will unfold more as an all-out war. With Daniel, Juliette, and the people of Silo 18 and Silo 17 on one side, Silo 1 and loyalists will be on the other. While the people of Silo 1 are seemingly outnumbered by the rebels, they have access to weapons and technology that can easily wipe away hundreds at a time. Even in the past timeline, Silo season 3 will likely walk through the early rebellions in Silo 18 that were triggered by people like Helen. These early revolutions will likely parallel the one in the present, showing how it has taken decades of struggle to finally break authoritarian systems. Silo 9/10 In a dystopian future, men and women reside in a vast underground silo governed by strict regulations, believed to shield them from the hazardous world above. The series delves into the complex social order within the silo and the mysteries surrounding their subterranean existence.
