Sign in to your TheGamer account Asha Sharma threw The Elder Scrolls community some crumbs this week by giving them a puzzle to solve in regard to the next game’s name. Just two days later, a former Bethesda developer appears to have confirmed that the leading theory about what The Elder Scrolls 6 might be called is the correct one. The Xbox CEO revealed that she had stopped by Bethesda, where she was shown an Elder Scrolls 6 demo, commenting on how impressive the game looks. Sharma included the name of the game in her post, but censored it using eight asterisks. Eight being the key detail here, as that’s the most we’ve been told about the game in an official capacity since its reveal in 2018. Fans of the series have been trying to guess what name those asterisks are hiding ever since, and if you guessed Sentinel, it seems you might be right. Michael Kirkbride, best known for his work on Morrowind while at Bethesda, but also worked on Oblivion and Skyrim, replied to a fan guessing Sentinel with a simple “yes” under a Reddit post where people were sharing their theories. The account does indeed belong to Kirkbride, and it’s hard to interpret such a simple reply in any other way. They might be agreeing that Sentinel would be the best name for TES 6, or that he likes the idea of it being called Sentinel. The one-word answer does heavily imply that he is simply telling that one particular person who suggested the next game might be called Sentinel has hit the nail on the head. As for why Sentinel, beyond it being an eight-letter word that fits Sharma’s self-censored tweet, Sentinel is the name of a location in The Elder Scrolls. Bethesda has named games in the series this way before, including TES 6’s immediate predecessor, Skyrim. The game was also codenamed Project Guardian, and Sentinels are typically guardians. It all adds up, and now someone potentially in the know appears to have confirmed it. Potentially because even though Kirkbride has contributed a lot to The Elder Scrolls series, he doesn’t appear to be working on the next game. He is almost certainly still very connected to the studio, however, and will have likely been told, and maybe even shown, quite a bit of what the team has been cooking up. It’s odd that he’d be willing to confirm the name before it’s been officially revealed, but until he confirms otherwise, fans are running with the idea that The Elder Scrolls 6 will be called Sentinel based on his one-word answer.
