Is Neagley Coming Back for Season 2?

2 min readThe world of Reacher is bigger now. On September 16, the spinoff series Neagley premiered on Prime Video. While Alan Ritchson shows up as Jack Reacher for a hello and a handshake, the main focus is on his frequent partner Frances Neagley, played by Maria Sten, a former U.S. Army master sergeant turned private investigator in Chicago. But now that season 1 is available in its entirety to stream, fans might wonder if a second season is at all guaranteed. Here’s what we know so far.In its premiere, Neagley proved to be as formidable as Reacher, pulling in enough viewers on Prime Video to topple its big brother series as the most-viewed series worldwide. While it’s hard to get cold, hard figures for streaming shows that aren’t part of a press release, Neagley is proof the Reacher franchise has serious appeal. But what about Neagley itself? Sure, it’s popular. (Try asking your dad or uncle about it; they’re probably digging it.) But is it popular enough to see a second season? Is Neagley Renewed for Season 2?As of right now, the series has not been renewed for season 2 at Prime Video. However, series showrunner and co-creator Nicholas Wootton told Collider that there are season 2 plans should Amazon renew the show. On Neagley’s story, Wootton said her relationship to her “built family” would “continue into season 2.”That isn’t the only story the series’ writers have planned, either. Wootton confirms that Neagley’s search for her brother would be a major story for season 2, with a “twist” in store. Said Wootton: “We’d totally go into it in season 2. There’s a big twist in there and a whole thing. It’s a really fun story for Renee, and Keno is tied into it as well because he’s helping her find him and it’s the discovery of who he is. We have a whole storyline for it. We have it all figured out. It’s all written.”Of course, Neagley isn’t the only one with juicy stories slated for season 2. Wootton told Collider that another season may potentially explore Hudson’s family, Renee, Neagley’s haphephobia, and “all these other elements that we’re seeding in.”“Neagley and her haphephobia we get to a point with, but that’s a deep-seated trauma that doesn’t just take a few weeks to get over. We’d see that reverberate into even more intimate personal relationships. We’re very hopeful and excited for season 2.”Unfortunately, Amazon hasn’t given Neagley a second season green light just yet. Fans may be worried, considering that Reacher—which is currently shooting its fifth season as we speak—was confirmed for its sixth season recently on September 28. The season 6 renewal maybe would have been a good time to tell viewers that Neagley season 2 was also all good to go. But on the other hand, you can’t rush a good thing.
