A mine struck a crude oil supertanker in the Strait of Hormuz earlier today, triggering a “massive explosion”, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps says. The IRGC accused the vessel of taking an “unauthorised” route and switching off its navigation and positioning systems as it tried to exit the strait. Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency carried the statement, which warned: “A terrible fire is the end result of any violating tanker that tries to ignore the security and rules of the Strait of Hormuz.”
