Iraq to keep oil output unchanged in December 2026

People walk by the headquarters of OPEC as the logo is seen on its facade in Vienna, Austria. Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – During a virtual meeting on Sunday, seven OPEC+ nations, including Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria, and Oman, agreed to maintain their required September 2026 production levels through December 2026. Iraq’s required allocation remains unchanged at 4.43 million barrels per day. The decision comes as OPEC+ seeks to maintain market stability amid regional disruptions. Iraq has been working to push for higher production baselines—including ambitions toward a six million barrels per day baseline in future negotiations—while balancing export flows through alternative routes. The group is scheduled to hold its next review meeting on November 29, 2026. In early September, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi called for an increase in oil output to reach 10 million barrels per day by 2030. According to al-Zaidi, Iraq’s oil output should be proportionate to its reserves, oil production capabilities, and the growing number of the population, allowing it to satisfy its residents’ needs as well as development requirements. Iraq’s oil production reached approximately 4.5 million barrels per day by the end of 2025. Iraq is a founding member of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), which was established in Baghdad in September 1960. Iraq currently ranks as the second-largest crude oil producer in OPEC after Saudi Arabia.
