Iran’s security chief claimed on Sunday that US President Donald Trump's adminitation hired “thugs” in the coastal waters of Oman to smuggle oil through the Iranian blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Trump “claims every day that the Strait of Hormuz is open, but in response I say: ‘You are smuggling, but the strait is under Iranian control and we manage it,'” Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei was quoted as saying by Iran's ISNA news agency. Rezaei said that the smuggling operation involves the UAE military and the commander of US Central Command (Centcom), using a handful of “small vessels to transfer oil to larger tankers” and that Iran targets them “every night”.
