Iran says US response falls short of conditions for deal

Tehran continues to demand changes to Washington’s response before agreeing to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and resume talks, according to Iran’s security chief Mohsen Rezaei. “The US has agreed to some of Iran’s seven conditions, but we consider its response inadequate,” the Supreme National Security Council secretary wrote on X. “Iranian diplomacy has changed and there will be no return to the status quo ante,” he added. Iran’s demands include lifting the US naval blockade and removing restrictions on its oil exports. Tehran has offered to restore passage through the strait and restart negotiations once Washington meets its conditions. Rezaei previously ruled out opening the waterway to the US or beginning talks before Washington satisfies those demands.
