iPhone 17 India price increased by Rs 17,000 with immediate effect, here is new price

Last night, Apple finally introduced the world to its new generation of iPhones, including the iPhone 18 Pro series and the all-new iPhone Duo — its first-ever foldable device. Now, after a new iPhone launch, we usually see Apple slash the prices of its older-generation iPhones. But that didn’t happen this time. Instead, Apple did not introduce a new standard iPhone in the lineup — which means the iPhone 17 is still the latest vanilla iPhone in the market — and it got expensive.Apple has increased the price of the standard iPhone 17 in India by a massive Rs 17,000. The 256GB variant of the iPhone 17 was launched in India at Rs 82,900. It is now listed at Rs 99,900. The 512GB model, meanwhile, now costs Rs 1,24,900. In other words, the base iPhone 17 is now just Rs 100 short of the Rs 1 lakh mark.The price revision has taken effect immediately in the market, making the iPhone 17 significantly more expensive than it was when it launched last year.Why has the iPhone 17 become expensive?Well, repricing is not new in Apple’s ecosystem. Earlier this year, we saw Apple increase the prices of MacBooks, iPads and more. And there had already been expectations of a price hike for the iPhone 17. The timing was not clear though. But it finally happened. One of the reasons being discussed is the ongoing RAM and memory shortage. The rise of AI is pushing demand for memory, as data centres and AI companies need huge amounts of it to run their systems. This has put pressure on memory suppliers, resulting in price hikes. We are seeing a similar price hike in the Android phone market as well. And now Apple’s iPhone has taken a hit too. iPhone 17 price hike And it’s not just the iPhone 17 that got expensive last night. The company has also increased the prices of several other existing models, including the iPhone 17e, iPhone 16 and iPhone Air. Following the tradition of offering its latest Pro models, now with the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, Apple has also discontinued the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. However, these models will be available through third party sellers, until the stock lasts. Meanwhile, the iPhone 17e has received a Rs 15,000 price hike, moving from Rs 64,900 to Rs 79,900. The iPhone 16 is now listed at Rs 89,900, while the iPhone Air has seen the biggest increase among these models. Its price has jumped by Rs 30,000, from Rs 1,19,900 to Rs 1,49,900.What does the iPhone 17 offer?As for the specifications, nothing has been upgraded with this price revision. The standard iPhone 17 still comes with a 6.3-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It also gets an always-on display and up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness, along with Ceramic Shield 2 glass and an anti-reflective layer.Under the hood, the phone runs on Apple's A19 chip, which the company says is designed to support upcoming AI features. For photography, there is a 48-megapixel main camera with a 2x optical-quality telephoto crop and a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera.
