He said only iPhone 17 models and above will be given away, ruling out the iPhone 16.The giveaway was first announced in August, but the date was finalised on Friday, coinciding with the start of iPhone 18 sales in India. Trehan said selected recipients from Chandigarh and Mohali would receive the phones after their names are drawn publicly. In a video message announcing the event, Trehan said the distribution would take place “live here at this very place, in front of everyone,” adding that the media and people who had supported his previous initiatives would be invited. Speaking to the Press Trust of India (PTI), he said, “On September 22, the distribution will begin live here at this very place, in front of everyone. All media are invited. Everyone we invite will be welcome. Those who have come here previously and have been supportive will also be invited.”He added that the iPhones would be handed out to selected people from Chandigarh and Mohali, with the names of the recipients drawn in front of those present. “The names of the lucky recipients will be drawn in front of everyone, and they will receive the iPhones,” he said. In August, he had announced that two and three-wheeler owners would receive fuel coupons worth Rs 500, while four-wheeler owners would get coupons worth Rs 1,000.The first attempt, however, did not go as planned. Hundreds of people gathered at a petrol pump in Chandigarh's Sector 10 despite heavy rain, with some waiting for hours for the promised fuel. The situation became difficult to manage, and the petrol pump was eventually shut while police reached the spot. No fuel was distributed that day.Trehan later said the petrol langar had only been postponed and promised a three-day rescheduled distribution. He also apologised to those who had been inconvenienced by the confusion. Now, with the “iPhone Langar”, Trehan is taking the idea of an unusual giveaway several steps further, swapping fuel coupons for smartphones and promising that the entire distribution will unfold publicly on September 22.- EndsPublished By: Yashna TalwarPublished On: Sep 18, 2026 17:14 IST
